NASA unveils new Lunar Rover in inaugural parade

Looks like they stoled the crosswind crab gear from a B-52!! That thing looks kind of cool.

Here's what my sister said about it when she sent it to me:

Cool video of our prototype lunar rover at the inaugural parade. The girl in the spacesuit on the back (not the one who walks with the flag) is someone I know from work. Mike Gernhardt (astronaut) was driving it.

FWIW, they're not gonna be flying for a LONG time but they already have a workable rover done and the astronauts have obviously been learning how to drive it effectively. Having been privileged enough to see a bit of the inner workings, I can say that the amount of planning and preparation that goes into NASA missions is astounding, and the people there are truly top notch.

That thing is big. Wonder who's gonna want to pay for a lunar lander big enough to carry that rover? Maybe NASA should have been developinging a pair of lunar dirt bikes.

They contracted with international partner Ikea. It folds up to fit in a box 4" thick. :D

Progress. Yes, let's go to the Moon........again.

Considering that the last 35 years they've only had humans flying a mostly incapable, unreliable, and ridiculously expensive truck, going back will be setting them ahead at least 25 years.

Well... We're currently incapable of going to the moon.

"Progress" is going to the moon, seeing if we can do anything useful there, and also using it as a trial run for going farther.
