Since I'm researching C177's as a potential purchase, I've got Controller emailing me new listing alerts.

This one just appeared in my inbox: http://www.controller.com/listingsdetail/detail.aspx?OHID=1257901&GenHeader=1

It has something on the panel right above the flap lever I don't recall seeing before. Can you guys help identify it? Is it an older, mechanical display DME device??

I'm voting DME given the 1 & 2 markings and NMs readout.

FN's right -- old DME. Can't remember if it's Narco or King. And is that a LORAN I see just below the audio panel? Someone hasn't been keeping up with technology...

It's DME. And the old drum units sound great!!! Probably an ARC model.

ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta .....ta ta ta .....ta at....whap!

Definately an older DME. I would say looking at the entire avionics stack as a whole, you are gonna want to spend some money on it soon! And avacodo green interior is making a comeback!:D I am wondering what the hole in the pedestal is for? I like the switches on the lower panel, one is marked DME, it must have been added later..............1980 maybe?

Yeah it's an old as dirt DME. But more importantly...

$65,000!!!?!? YGBSM! :hairraise:

Easy to gain 100 pounds of useful load here....

I like the color. If you throw up all over it, no one will notice.

Looks like a paperweight to me.

For $66k Why would you want a 177?

You can get ALOT more plane then that for that much $$

Even new DME's are kind of useless. I've got a KN64 that I installed right after I bought the Navion (it had pretty much the rest of a silver crown stack: two KX-155, KR-86, KT-78). Now that I have the 480, I turn it on only from time to time for amusement.

Didn't say I was gonna chase after that particular one  But if you're hinting that better buys can be found for similar money, I agree.

IME, that's generally true, although I have taken a RAIM failure (non-WAAS) on an ILS and immediately switched to the DME with no interruption.

Yeah, I have WAAS. I put the DME unit in originally because several of the approaches into IAD where I was based were ILS/DME and because it made scooting around the class B fringes easier if you could display the DME (though it really annoyed the hell out of me that not all class B's are centered on a DME station). Of course, I got a handheld GPS to fix problem #2 in short order (I got serial #000009 of the Garmin 195).
