There are two types of deadbolts that I can find, one has a key access on the exterior of course, and the other has a key access on both sides, referred to as a Double Keyed Deadbolt.

Do they mean a Double-keyed Deadbolt?

Hard to imagine a Deadbolt that has no key access! (why put the word "Keyed" in front of Deadbolt?)

A "non-keyed" deadbolt can only be engaged from one side of the door. IIRC, this was the only kind of "deadbolt" originally (many many years ago).

FWIW, In most, if not all of NY, Double keyed deadbolts are against the fire codes. My apartment house had them and the fire inspector made me change them all to keyed outside only.

Double keyed deadbolts are for situations where there's window right next to the door, or a window in the door itself. They prevent someone from breaking the glass, reaching around and opening the door. No point or need for a double keyed deadbolt elsewhere.

Don't know about fire code - that's a moving target. Worth checking for your area.

"Fire Code" - chuckle!

The deadbolt without key access is a "privacy lock" that can only be latched or unlatched from the inside. There is no key at all.

Keyed deadbolts can be unlocked from the outside with a key, giving "deadbolt" security not only when someone is there (like with a privacy lock) but also when they leave (and not have to rely on a spring latch bathroom door lock that a credit card can defeat)
