[NA] Ultimate Drag Race

So the results were not completely hp-related.
Must be low-end gearing ratios making up most of the difference?
That and driver technique. Surely not tires.

I picked 3 of the top 5. I figured the 911 to get the Z06, but oh well. The BMW, Cayman and Lotus shouldn't even have been included.

Lots of driver technique there. The start was horrible. The 458 just sat there, maybe he was spinning. Tires make a huge difference, also given that it appeared they were all on cold tires, spin city.

The GTR is AWD and stock won't hardly spin off the line which lets everything else play catch up. Has the 458 hooked off the line, it would have been 458 and then GTR, but he didn't.

I've got a 2000 Trans Am that would have finished 3rd or 4thwith that pack and I didn't spend anywhere near the $$ those boys did, but I'd trade it for one of them, even if they are slower.

Yup, some fast cars there. I would run at the back of the pack ,in the high 12's. Yup, most those cars can beat my $10K street machine, but do they have a 300 watt 8-Track player? ..... Maybe I am in the minority, but I am far more impressed with ANY car that is hand built by the owner on a budget. Showing off the size of your wallet doesn't impress me at all. But they are nice cars, for those without the skills to be a real hot-rodder. Dave

Ultimate Drag Race?? Sometime in the mid 60s, the USS Enterprise and the USS Long Beach just happened to be motionless in the water alongside each other and just happened to go to full throttle at the same time. I'm not sure you could talk about a classic quarter mile drag race as that is just a little over one hull length for the Enterprise. With 1/4 the power but only 1/6 the displacement, the Long Beach accelerated more quickly but was quickly overtaken by the faster Enterprise.

Awesome. Were you aboard?

Yes, I served on the Enterprise from early 63 until late 66. In the photo of the Enterprise, Long Beach, and Bainbridge sailing side by side, I am one of the many "White Hats" spelling out E=MC squared on the flight deck of the Enterprise.

There is only one commissioned ship in the Navy now that is older than the Enterprise. That is the USS Constitution tied up in Boston harbor.I've been aboard her too (about 2 months ago) but no, I'm not old enough to have served on her.

"On March 7, 1950, the Arizona was symbolically "re-commissioned" when a flagpole was erected on the ship. The USS Arizona is treated as one of the current fleet and the flag flying on the ship's mast only flies at half-staff when the other ships fly their flags at half-staff."

baddaxx sounding car, If you were closer you could bring it to my muffler shop and we could make it drive-able. If it is open header you might even go faster with the right exhaust. next video show us under the hood. :) Dave

I wasn't aware of that. Here is what Wikipedia says:

"It is commonly—but incorrectly—believed that Arizona remains perpetually in commission, like the USS Constitution.[45] Arizona is under the control of The National Park Service. The US Navy still retains the title.[2] On 7 March 1950, Admiral Arthur W. Radford, Commander in Chief of the Pacific Fleet at that time, instituted the raising of colors over her remains. "

I'll have to get an under the hood video.. The previous video was exactly as you said, open headers. She's much more tame with exhaust on it. :)

Heh, gimme a few grand and I'll have a chunk of FWD plastic clad econobox mixing it up with them.

BUT let's remember that a 1/4 mile drag race is not what these cars were built for. Throw some curves in there and watch what happens, many will shine all the brighter:D

Not a bad bike, but won't do what the in-line-four superbikes will. Probably beat all those cars, though.

Yeh, I've run the gamut from CBR to Gixxer and back. Next bike will be less aggressive.

A 954 would be nice. I've considered the SV1000 as well. Rode one a few years ago and loved it.
