The manual lists a bunch of things, local wrench is unable/unwilling to do. Just wondering if there is new information out there suggesting these things are no longer thought to be needed or more than ever, don't fail to complete:

2003 4Runner, 2UZ-FE, 120K miles, mild climate, <10K mi per year now, occasional highway, mostly short runs -what else is needed?

120K mi check:
-change spark plugs. Local guys say may strip the hole, leave em til failure
-change fluids (coolant, diff, trans
-check/set valves

Do or ignore?

I would replace plugs, never seen one strip out. Use NGk plugs only. Check fluids, replace as necessary. Leave valves alone. I believe they can't be adjusted. I will double check when I get to work.

whoa it says check valves but they cannot be adjusted, yikes Manual-writers. Thanks.

Definitely replace the plugs. Put some anti-seize on them before re-installing. They only will strip out the plug hole if there was a lot of corrosion. As for fluids (other than engine oil which is changed much more regularly), I change them every two years. That includes brake fluid, coolant flush, and differential oil.

I believe you also have a timing belt. If so, you'll want to change that if you haven't already.

I follow all the OEM mx stuff.

I'd also find a new mechanic

Change what you're working on to see the correct answer...

"The manufacturer says to replace the oil in my airplane's engine but the local wrench won't do it..."

Fired. Next!
