I am going through a lot of this in mesquite country here, mowers etc. Has anyone tried the cheaper brands of goop, or should I stick with the green Slime brand?
Best Slime price I see here is $30/gal

Just pick up a tire repair kit. If you put sealant in your tires most places wont fix them and you have buy new tires.

Those are strictly for emergencies. FAR better is to put the spare on and get the flat fixed properly.

Keep your spare in serviceable condition.

Your lawn mower has a spare?

I have put green slime in mower tires and it seems to work fine against cactus. Of course I'm the last person to ask about fixing things "properly" so take that with a grain of salt. :dunno:

Whoa guys, this is for 8 mower tires, a wheelbarrow, a dolly etc.
I did not explain the situation well enough.
And, I don't believe everyone knows what 'mesquite country' means. I didn't til I experienced it. For eg:
I cannot run my hand across the inside of any of these tires as they are like the surface of the nastiest porcupine you have seen. If you did you would draw back a bloodied stump. If I drive 100' in any direction, I will pick up another dozen thorns - the only reasonable way to keep the tires inflated through the year is to use sealant (it works well. And I can't justify all new flat-free tires). Mesquite: ("mess-keet")

So fixing flats, the traditional way, unless it is a visible hole -is out of the question.
The autos; we stick to the well-used roadway/parking areas. Woe unto thee who drives off paved roads here.
Actually my pu has extra-belted tires because I occasionally must go onto pasture.

So. For those familiar with tire sealant, please post your experiences/reviews!
Thanks.

We have some similar little thorn bushes here, though not as bad. I ended up putting a bunch of Slime in all four tires on the riding mower and it hasn't been a problem since.

I use Slime in my lawn equipment and wheelbarrow tires. Works well. Honey Locust instead of Mesquite here...same thorns.

I, just yesterday, put some Fix-A-Flat in the front tires of the new ZTR (because that's what I had). Don't know if it'll work as well as Slime or not at this time.
