A 19-year-old University of Virginia fraternity pledge wound up in intensive care after ingesting a meal of dog food, matzo balls and gefilte fish and topping it off with 12 to 18 ounces of soy sauce, court documents show.

Last I looked I didn't see any warning about such dangers on soy sauce. Are there other such hidden dangers in our kitchens?

There's a huge amount of sodium in soy sauce. I can see how a person consuming 12-18 oz. of it could become very ill. That's like 22-33 grams of sodium...

I always thought that frat boys ended up hospitalized from over consumption of OTHER fermented liquids...
It was probably the gefilte fish.

Heck, you can even overdo water consumption if you try hard enough.

There was a woman participating in some kind of radio station contest a few years back that essentially overdosed on water and died.

Somehow I just assumed our bodies stopped us from doing such things.

Humans are the only species on the planet (I believe) that can override basic survival instincts. We fight even after "surrender" has been offered, et al. Intelligence has it's price.

I'm sure you're right, but that's a funny remark in this thread... I wouldn't exactly hold up "water overdose to win a Wii" and "the dog food/soy sauce diet to impress some frat-tastic dudes" as instances of intelligence.
