Ok guys..anyone have suggestions for a decent spam filtering package for someone who uses POP email via Outlook/Outlook express? I have a friend who apparently has had their address spoofed and is getting a boat load of spam and bounced messages now. She doesn't want to change email addresses, her ISP has been less than helpful and doesn't have any decent spam filtering (and she lives in a rural area where changing ISP's is a no-go too), and she's run the gauntlet on spam/virus/malware software scans to make sure she doesn't have malware on her PC. About the only thing I can think of now is a semi-decent spam filtering software to try to weed out some of the email she doesn't want her 10 year old reading.

Suggestions?

Get a GMail account and forward everything to it. GMail has great spam filtering.

They even have tools to get your mail from the old account by POP.

There are a number of solutions - ranging from the "internet security" bloatware to installing some sort of firewall.

Mike's suggestion is probably the easiest.

Spammers must die.

What sucks..is when someone does this--sometimes you end up getting black listed by Gmail or Yahoo because your server is forwarding so much spam to them....

Well if they use the GMail POP access to the legacy account instead the legacy ISP isn't the source.
