If you never paid anything into SS, and are not eligible for your spouse's benefits, are there any provisions for you?
Seeing a lot of elderly people still working and I don't believe they all want to, just wondered how it works.

Short answer, yes, there are.

Since you specifically mentioned elderly - If you are elderly (I presume > 65), you can be covered by Supplemental Social Security Benefits if you don't have "enough" income otherwise. No, I don't know what enough means, but if you play their game, you accept whatever they tell you enough is.

There are other ways to qualify, such as disability.

You'll find that some people do indeed like to work and that even primary social security retirement benefits may not be sufficient for some.

If you are the full retirement age, you are entitled to half the benefit the spouse qualifies for even if don't qualify on your own.

Just being old enough without income is not sufficient to get SSI. You also can't have more than a couple of thou in assets nor a source of residential support (like living with another family member, etc...). SSI is pretty low level poverty assistance type stuff.

A new memo reveals illegal immigrants who have used fraudulent Social Security numbers will still be able to receive benefits as a result of President Obama’s executive actions on amnesty.

The memo reads: “Under the November 20, 2014, policy memorandum, foreign nationals who receive deferred action status may be eligible for work authorization.”
The “policy memorandum” describes Obama’s executive actions on amnesty announced on the afore mentioned date, in which roughly five million illegal aliens living in the United States would be able to remain in the country to work and be granted a Social Security card.

“As a result, a foreign national who receives deferred action status may be able to have all of his or her Social Security-covered earning count toward qualifying for a Social Security benefit (all earnings from authorized and unauthorized work),” the memo stated.

“Thus,” the memo continues, “those who will receive deferred action status as a result of the November 20, 2014 memorandum, and are eligible for Social Security benefits, will be able to receive those benefits in the United States. Notably, the concept of lawfully present is only a factor when an alien is trying to receive a benefit payment in the United States. In many situations, foreign nationals who qualify for a Social Security benefit are able to receive benefits outside the country.”

Wipe out SS before I retire-
