This has become my go-to spot for travel suggestions - even above and beyond the typical FBO PIREPs. Y'all crushed it with NYC steakhouse suggestions back in December and with Philly cheesesteak recommendations a couple of years ago, so here's another scenario for the masses...

Wife and I are headed to NYC this weekend for my brother-in-law's 40th bday. Headed to the Yankees-Phillies game Saturday afternoon and would like to find a low-key bar to hang out at afterwards. Live music is a plus, but not required. We're staying near Times Square, but since we're coming back from Yankee Stadium, we can hop off the train enroute as necessary if there are any neighborhood digs worth checking out.

Any suggestions?

I’m a dedicated beer geek, so when in NYC I search out the cool little beer pubs, preferring quiet-ish and low key. My current favorite is 1.5 blocks west of Times Square on W 45th, Beer Culture. It’s small and pretty quiet, no live music, but that’s cool with me, I have hearing issues anyway. They have a decent kitchen and always rotating beer taps.

Next up is a wee bit north in Hell’s Kitchen, Valhalla NYC at 9th Ave and W 54th. Similar to Beer Culture in vibe, but a larger space. Lotsa good barley pops/eats here.

After these I kinda like The Three Monkeys at 8th Ave and W 50th. Much larger space than the previous two with lotsa good beer and a more extensive kitchen. With the extra room they have, possible live music…

You’ve gotta go down to Battery Park, but there’s always Fraunce’s Tavern for a bit of history.

Oh, yes yes yes.

If you're looking for a bar and want it low key, New York's hottest club is BRUH. Started by a burned out 80's child actor turned coke dealer, this place has everything: Members Only jackets, Reebok pumps, Jordache Jeans, glow in dark straws that taste like TAB cola, a guy in the corner that drinks beer and every 5 minutes yells "NORM", and a human briefcase.

I really like Birdland Jazz Club, it’s not exactly a bar, you’d get a table and chairs, they have live music, it’s more of a show.
