Well my decade old Rossignol SC80's have their fair share of PTex holding the ski together... and it's time for a new set.

I like a pretty stiff all mountain expert level ski. Any suggestions? (No rockers please!)

I'm also so tired of the crowds on I70 so I think it's time I get myself some AT skis if anyone has suggestions for those.

Pretty hard to find no rocker skis these days which irritates me as well. My Dynastar Power Tracks have minimum rocker with traditional camber for most of the length and I like them a lot.

Cheers

I never could figure out short, shaped. Feels like I am in a high speed shopping cart about to spin out of control. Must be my..ahem..age.
Loong. Skinny. Straight.

I still use my rock skis (PREs with Salomon bindings) and my serious skis (Rossi's with Markers). Ski geometry is like everything else - cyclical. Wait. The short, shaped skis will be passe, and our 180-220s will be back in vogue.

It is hard to find no rocker skis nowadays. Among the new fangled, rocker having skis, I like the Nordica Hell & Back. There are several types. I like the ones with the least rocker, narrower waist, and pretty stiff.

My favorite ever were Solomon X-Wings. I don't know if you can even find them anymore. I think they quit making them a few years ago. Freaking loved them.

I really like the shaped skis, but I never bought in to the fad of running really short ones, although I did shorten up quite a bit. I used to run 200+ size skis, but I've shortened up to the 180-185 range in shaped skis and feel like I have much better control than with the ol' long and straight ones.

That being said. I'm not sure it's wise to take ski advice from a guy from Oklahoma. Take it for what it's worth. :)

Shaped skis really are better. I will probably demo a pair of rockers this year, sometime, but I haven't tried them yet. My last couple pairs have been Atomics, which I have liked. I might look at K2.

Head over to your favorite slope, rent a variety of the skis, see which you prefer. It's pretty much like headsets.

Started on 180's, grew to 207's, now back to 180's. If only my knees cycled back to original shape as well:(

Today's skis, with minimum rocker (or none if you can find them) are miles superior to my old straight skinny skis. Couple days ago I hit 45 mph on my Dynastars and solid as a Tomcat at Mach 1.5:) Equally great turning at slower speeds like the Tomcat with the wings forward.

Cheers

That's cute I hit 82mph on my race skis ;)

My ski tracks app recorded 85 mph a couple of years ago but I don't believe it. Still I kept the recording for bar talk . Season max is typically 50-55. I figure that's enough for a geezer.

Cheers

Someone makes a "backcountry ski" that is cut the way the old skis were cut, but its shorter. Sold in mountaineering stores with mountaineering bindings, but you can put normal downhill bindings and boots on them. Its the backpacking, rock climbing stores that carry them around here. The are not telemark or skinny skis, they are skis for downhill skiing, boots that you can put crampons on and skis that you put skins on for uphill. Then epic down the couloir baby...

Trying to be Lyndsay Vonn (sp?) and crash? LOL Skiing is dangerous!
Lindsey Vonn is the LAST skier I want to be like. She is a big cry-baby drama queen that only actually cares about being in the limelight. Mikaela Shiffrin however is a genuinely nice person.

It took me about 6 threads to figure out these were not for a plane.....who rides skis anymore. Snowboards are the new standard.

It is switching back. Skis are now back in style. Of course, I never switched... so, it works for me.

Skis win for "getting around on the mountain" (traverses, sidestepping up, flats to the powder etc). Every time a snowboarder stops, you see them "sitting down". Snowboards can really carve a nice fast GS turn though. Skis win in a head to head GS course of equal ability skier/snowboarder. They both work. Ride or ski what ya like!

I much prefer snowboarders on the mountain while I ski. They're MUCH easier to pass (I pass everybody :D) and their turns are far more predictable. Skiers tend to be a bit more erratic.

Everything will have some amount of rocker these days. Most manufacturers will still have camber underfoot. There's a good list here http://blistergearreview.com/index-ski-reviews-sorted-by-type#powderskis.

I ski a Rossi Soul 7, but I don't have the weight to bend something much stiffer. The Blizzard Cochise's have had good reviews and are a bit stiffer than my Rossis and may suit you.
