Yes I know... let me explain.
I have a very nice quality Suunto hand bearing compass, and an accompanying clinometer which I bought in the 90's for a backwoods surveying project. Or rather the company bought it for me. And I've used both exactly.... once.
I was looking at both of them today. The compass was fine but I noticed that the fluid in the clinometer turned from clear to green. It still seems to work, and the markings are visible, at least for now.
I'm assuming there is some copper in the metal that is somehow being leached out, discoloring the fluid. Yes I've done some Googling and it does seem to be a problem. Has anyone here run in to that? Suggestions?
It's an academic question. Even if it breaks completely I won't buy another one because I don't need one. But I really do like the compass, it is super precise. Although, I suspect the magnetic compass on my iPhone is probably even more accurate. They were both about a hundred bucks a pop in 90's dollars.
