anything to look/look out for?
I read on Apple's site that 10/12W 2.1A is the correct output.
Are there some that are too bulky for the console areas of some vehicles?
or maybe they are all the same?
(Will some off brands cook a device?)

The device itself controls the charge rate. You can't cook anything. The 2.1A means that amount of current is available assuming the device can use it. As long as you're buying from a reasonable source (i.e. Best Buy, Apple Store, Target, etc) you can assume the charger is of reasonable quality. I personally bought my car charger from the Apple Store - it's a dual USB outlet. You can use it to charge anything that uses a USB cable. Definitely the way to go.
