I bought a few cables which do not reach the connectors inside the ipad, and have a flat instead of a slope which would fit the ipad better...in any case they don't make contact and do not work.
Is there an ipad cable spec I need to look for?
Also some of them have such large profile they don't clear the case.
Where to go for cables, what to ask for?
I need a splitter or 'Y' cable; male to two female for example.

Is it a case that's causing the fit problem? Any cable should fit the iPad itself.

There are quite a few cables made with slim ends, and some have very slim extensions between the actual plug and the cable end that help a lot. They'll fit any case. If you search Amazon for 3.5mm cables, you'll see that all the highly rated cables are of this design. Here's what I have: AmazonBasics 3.5mm Male to Male Stereo Audio Cable - 4 Feet (1.2 Meters) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NO73MUQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_U7sPxbKMXZ2DX

Those are very low profile and I think will work great.
I will be looking for 6" cable with a male splitting into two females using your info, thank you.
