Cinco de Mayo. The celebration is larger in the US now than in Mexico, I am reading. All about unpaid war debts. The French retreated after a day of fighting 6000 v 2000 Mexican soldiers. 500 lost on the French side, 200 on the Mx side. Actually have family living at the site of the skirmish, Puebla (they are in Cholula the site of the worlds largest pyramid. Cool volcanoes there too.).
Those who follow history may belittle the event as a footnote in the larger scheme, fine. It's a cool celebration in Mexico.

I had a blast, had numerous chains of beads lavished upon me and didn't even have to show my manboobs to get them! Numerous Negra Modellos were emptied.

I drank a Negra Modelo in commemoration of CdM yesterday (my wife made certain we had one for exactly that purpose).

There are those who contend it is a dubious excuse for a celebration, but I suggest that there are way too few celebrations, so, why not?

("Cool volcanoes"? It's the fact that they are not cool that makes them cool. Capeche?

I discovered Negra Modelo at the Yacht Club in Cuidad del Carmen in 1991. The camarones a la plancha con tocino e queso were perfectly grilled. The dark beer was an excellent flavor to go along with the shrimp and bacon.
