It appears that through the years, many have come up with elaborate theories of why they do not owe the government income tax. (ran across this interesting document while looking for the new SS deduction rates)
Unfortunately, it looks like the IRS has their defense well-established:
“Like moths to a flame, some people find themselves irresistibly drawn to the tax protester movement’s illusory claim that there is no legal requirement to pay federal income tax. And, like moths, these people sometimes get burned.” (an actual quote in that irs link)

However I have discovered a way around all their counterpoints! (and eagerly await someone else to put it to the test!) :

"All their cases have been won because the judges who decide in the government's favor are paid employees of........the government!"

(good luck, and let me know how your case goes)

:D

So setting up a not for profit organization to promote aviation, donating my whole salary from my regular job, then living in the organization's hangar, flying its planes, and driving its cars still won't get me to avoid the tax liability?
Or I could just be super rich and get all my living expenses paid from interest on my investments.
I missed on the super rich part but maybe the former is still available.

Of course to get super rich you would likely had to work very hard and pay taxes on your income while making the money. And as far as making money on your investments, I hope you choose well as your income is not guaranteed and is based on you choosing well and factors outside of your control. That would be why the capital gains taxes are lower then the income tax, to encourage you to invest your money as working capital for companies.

Use of an organization's assets for ANY personal purpose (i.e. living in the hanger, driving a car to get lunch, etc) is considered taxable income..

:(looks like I will owe about $43,000.00 this year........:(:yikes:

I got money back..... which only means I have to adjust my exemptions to hit around $0. While I don't like giving the Gov't a free loan...... I don't like owing a ton at the end of the year either.

A friends brother just did his taxes and owes $18,000. He got a severance package from his last job (untaxed 9 months of salary)..... and spent it all. So now he has no money...... and a tax bill.... whups.

I dare anyone to go up against the IRS. I've got a short list of people not to screw with. Mail-person, because they will ALWAYS know where you live. Barber, because they are all smiles, until they shave a line down the middle of your head. And the tax man....... if they can put mobsters in prison, I don't think you're going to win against them.

I heard a guy ranting and raving about "government judges" and how the courtroom and the whole court system was invalid because they don't have the American flag inside. "What's that red, white, and blue thing on a stick next to the judge?" That's not an American flag, that one has a fringe around the edges and that makes it invalid!:loco:

That's what's so great about conspiracy theories. You take something common and devoid of symbolism, assign some hidden (and usually sinister) meaning to it, and - Presto! Anyone who disagrees with you is either part of the sinister conspiracy, or just a rube who has been fooled by Them.

These guys are actually practicing tax evasion. Seriously illegal.

According to the IRS, "Tax Avoidance" is legal.

Kind of. Tax avoidance is ok, but if it is your primary purpose in entering into a transaction, it will be collapsed and you could be fined with penalties. There are a host of disclosure requirements for "listed" and "prohibited" transactions that will cause the taxpayer a lot of problems if the rules aren't complied with to the T.

Tax minimization? That's what I do for my clients.

Add the waiter and the chef/cook to your list. At least don't mess with them until after you eat.
