Today I had one of the coolest fishing trips of my life, despite the fact that as the title suggests, I got skunked. My boss needed some new product videos done for 2014 rods, and sent me out on the water to do them...... with Hank Parker. This guy is one of the world's best fishermen who I've admired since I first saw some of his TV shows, and to put it in perspective, this would be like getting a half day flight training session with Bob Hoover to do sales videos for the Shrike. Anyhow, I got an awesome day of fishing and talking with him on the water and learned several fishing and life lessons from him--and he turned out to be a really nice guy. Anyhow, just thought I'd share and hopefully some of you know who he is.

Sounds like you lost your focus....fish, it is about the fish ;)

I'm no where as entertaining or proficient, but when I go fishing...

I don't know who he is, but obviously an icon in the field. Although, being the case that you didn't catch any fish, I'd equate the trip more so like a half day in the cockpit talking to Bob Hoover without actually getting up and flying, haha.

(Sounds like you had a fun and informative trip.)

Looks like you're holding that awfully close to the camera

But the main reason we couldn't catch was the lake was rising and bass don't like that in this reservoir... Or so he says :)

Good fisherman = good excuses.

Very cool! I like Hank - he seems really down-to-earth. He did ruffle my feathers on one of his hunting shows, though. He was watching a buck about 100 yds down a cut-out. He actually said "Now, if he doesn't turn around and face left, I won't really have a clean shot at him." A minute or so later, he took the shot anyway and didn't get the kill. Acknowledging that he didn't have a good shot, but taking it anyway kinda took him down a few notches in my book.

Still seems like a nice guy, though.

... now about these rods that you need to test. I think you need a Georgia testing environment.... You don't happen to work for Orvis or Sage by chance do you? ;)

Fenwick&Pflueger (and really the rest of the Pure Fishing group)--we do make fly equipment. But I think Georgia is a bit too hot for us.

Ahhh.. Pure.. I did an internship in Jackson, Minnesota several years ago - spent a lot of time around Sprit Lake/Okoboji - right in Pure headquarters territory.

We're HQ'd in Columbia SC now... the Spirit Lake branch does the line and lures, while we take care of mostly durables.
