Yesterday was too windy for flying but it was a great day for swinging.
Merrill Auditorium, Portland, Maine(for those of you who don’t live around these parts) is known as the home of the Portland Symphony Orchestra, a fine organization. Of countless times I’ve been there I’ve never seen the auditorium swing like it did on February 26.
http://davebennett.com/ relates to David Bennett, clarinetist. He’s absolutely spectacular. Practically, the reincarnation of Benny Goodman, and recognized as such. 27 years old, he appeared with his 7 piece ensemble for many numbers. On many others, the band was backed by the entire Portland Symphony, with orchestrations arranged by Bennett’s upright bass player. After a sellout performance, two ovations, two encores, another ovation. Magnificent musicians, he, and the others.
Within the Link, above, while viewing it scroll down to the Videos and click on “I Got Rhythm.” That group isn’t the one that performed on Sunday but that composition was performed. Also, listen to "Avalon." He, for certain, doesn’t have arthritis in his fingers. I hope you enjoy his mastery.
If you have the opportunity to see him in live concert it's absolutely incredible.
