A Facebook aviation photography friend/acquaintance Steve Nelson, thought he recognized our airplane from the photos that Paul Gordon shot Sunday, of me and my wife Karen landing at KAPA.

Sure enough, he either is a master at Photoshop, or there's someone out there who built a scale RC model of 79M at some point in her past history.

The former owner lived in the Boulder, CO area but we haven't really kept in touch with him. He might know more about it.

But just throwing it out there... Any Colorado pilots recognize the background "stuff" at this RC event way back in the deep recesses of your big pilot brains?

If nothing else the photo is way cool, but it's now a hunt to see if we can figure out where this RC plane ended up.

(If it's like my RC stuff, probably wrecked. But I also never would have taken the time to do that close of a paint job to a real aircraft unless I were a lot better RC pilot than I am... Too easy to wreck 'em if you're not that good at it.)

Any super-sleuths have any ideas?

Doesn't Front Range host a big RC day every year? However, given the tree in the background ... ? :dunno:

Too cool, I have an rc 182 (or 2) that need a 80s vintage paint job.

He found another one tonight.

He thinks it was at the Arvada RC club's event in 2004, before our LLC owned the airplane.

I'm just amazed he recognized the paint job on our aircraft and then knew he had a photo on a hard drive somewhere of that model in 2004.

The hunt is on to see if we can figure out where the model ended up and/or who built it.

I know! It's amazingly detailed. I would love to find the owner and see it in person.
