Here are photos the left-seater took on his discovery flight with me Tuesday. <Dialup warning> This was with my camera... I should get more e-mailed to me and will post any good ones. One of the best sunsets I've seen from the air in my 10 years of flying, and these pictures don't do it justice because the colors were so spectacular.

I wish every intro flight had a view like this! This was landing on 27 at Oshkosh.

Ironically the only way this happened was that everything ran behind that day, due to having to get the plane out of a different hangar than expected, get fuel, etc. Glad it worked out this way.

"Learning to fly? Minimum 40 hours, several grand, a bunch of reading... and... oh yeah, look out the window..." B)

awesome kate. often, when everything is going wrong, it turns out just right.

Those are beautiful pictures, Kate. You should submit them to PoTW (I'll submit my Aztec one if I can figure out how).

The beautiful views are definitely one of the most magnificent things about flying, and night/sunset are the best. A few months back some friends were visiting me, and we took the Mooney down to Lancaster for dinner (about a 40 minute flight). It was a beautiful flight down, but when we came back it was one of those perfect nights - not a cloud in the sky, and no moon. As we took off and turned north for the quick trip home, there was little traffic on the radio, and my friends' eyes quickly turned out the window, where they stayed fixated for the remainder of the flight.

You just don't get views like that from the ground.

I'm thinking it could very well be like when I first took my then 5 year old niece for a flight. "Grandma! We went to a carnival!"

They'll think that's a normal day at the office. Maybe they won't even notice.

I learned to fly in North Carolina before returning to Wisconsin a few years ago. Frankly, I don't know how any of you CFIs get future students started in the dead of winter - especially when you make them start to do the preflights in sub-zero windchills. Bravo to you, Kate, for such a nice discovery flight. Sights such as this are thrilling to all of us, but must be magical for new prospective students.
