Alright, so I just found out that it's a done deal that my Flight School is handing over the School's operations to another business for a few years. :( Kinda bummed about this(not really sure why).
Nothing should really change for me, except for what part of the airport to drive to.

Apparently the owner had some less than terrific months with the flight school during the summer and decided to just focus on the aircraft maintenance business for the near future. I had hoped that he'd stick it out(fall/winter months are also more active) but apparently he decided against it. Oh well, I guess I get to learn if I like this new company now.

Anyone else have experience with this mid-training?

How is your instructor ? Will he/she make the transition to the new entity ?

Unless you have a contract stipulating this, you have no obligation to follow.
Did you prepay for some training?

I like my instructor. As far as I know all the instructors are also moving over as well.

No obligation, but this airport is the closest to me(still 30 mins away) that has a FBO for flight training. I like the instructors, I'm just disappointed in the owner for signing away the business, and I don't know the new business. If I don't like the new business I can always find another, but it will be an inconvenience.

If your CFI is moving over as well, hopefully it will be close to the same experience for you.

It might be better! Give it a chance!
I hope so. It looks like they might be adding helicopter training soon which would be great since no one offers it in the area and I'd like to do it as well at some point.

Welcome to the wonderful world of aviation. The only thing that remains constant is change.

As long as you didn't prepay for training, this shouldn't really affect you. The alternative for the operator would have been to shut down flight training alltogether.

Yea like I said I shouldn't be affected much. Just somewhat disappointed. Maybe it's for the better.
If the flight ops had been shut down later instead it wouldn't have been much of an issue for me either. My instructor also does some teaching independent of the school. So all I'd of lost was the Cessna flight school name.

Pro tip

Follow the CFI, not the name above the door.

Get him to freelance if you need to.

Disappointment I surely understand. I would not hold it against him/her however.
The biz world, especially any aviation service, often has slim margins and is typically started by someone who loves aviation but never makes any money from it. Lucky someone else is around to pickup what he started.

I had this happen to me once, and it turned out to be a positive thing. I kept the same CFI, and had access to a wider range of planes!

That's good to hear. This new school is getting a helicopter so I'm pretty excited for that too.
