My employer is asking employees to live in camp for four weeks

    I think the rules are way out of line and appear to me to be 100% for the benefit of the company. They are not doing this because they care about the people. It is all about keeping production going.

    I understand it. Nobody wants to dip into their cash reserves to pay bills. Once you pull money out of the bank it’s a lot harder to put it back in.

    I get it too, but if you're 62 and have at least 10 years cash reserve, why not just go missed and call it a career?

    Bill, My perspective is one of being the employer. I'm trying to find ways to keep my staff employed with a big reduction in business and trying conditions. Our doors are locked but the phones are on. They aren't ringing. Employers are trying to figure out how to keep revenue flowing and people working with the hope that this is a short term problem. We want to be ready for the rebound of the economy. Good people have been hard to find for the past year. Once things return to normal it'll be worse. Do what you want but be mindful that your employer is in a tough spot. And I'll bet there are lots of guys who'll take your job right now so you aren't in a position of strength. Best wishes.     I did the 4 guys sleeping in a 8X10 room that the company rented to us for only 400 bucks a month per person. I have slept in a hangar with only a wood stove for heat. I have lived in a dorm type room without electricity and water and the outhouse 200 feet away. And real outhouses don't have walls. Plus have wood seats. Get a splinter and you really find out who your friends are....

    Yes, I will take my creature comforts, even in the bush... :lol::lol:

    If the employer is paying the hotel fee for 2 weeks it's costing them money they aren't used to spending. Given that the AK Governor just mandated anyone traveling into the state to serve a 14 day quarantine Bill's company had to make provisions for it's staff. That's adapting to the conditions, not making harsh demands on the workers to line the company's pockets. These are strange times. At least some of us have the opportunity to continue working. I know lots of folks that don't, and they're worried. The bills keep on coming. And that applies to companies as well as individuals. We're all trying to figure this out as best we can.

    Your comment seemed to be a complaint. That you feel its unreasonable that a company has a rule that is 100% for their benefit. I was simply pointing that its pretty common for companies to do that.

    well 12 1/2 hour days, camp food is good, the beds are not to my liking one bit. Internet is spotty. 6 foot separation rule, even on the bus up to the mine only 11 per bus. We take 6 buses up 7 min apart. It's not spring here 13F last night 21 tomorrow...:(

    I just had a shop meeting for my employees here in Anchorage. I reinforced the 6 foot space rule. That's just respect for others, plain and simple. My bookkeeper returned from a trip last Tuesday and wants to come to work. I told her to stay away for another week. I'd like here here but I won't compromise the safety of others.

    Not that bad, everyone making the best of it. 12 1/2 hour days for 28 days is going to bring in a good paycheck. The roughest thing so far is locking myself out of my room and having to climb thru the window to get in....:rolleyes:
