I need advice. I am tired of the same ol' MP3s I have on my player, and for the trip to Gastons, I'm gonna need some new material. I am open to all types of music. Make some suggestions for me, and I'll give rep in return.

Or not....since there's no rep anymore :D

And to avoid the ethics discussion, I'll say up front that I'll be paying for the music.

Bela Fleck - Jazz Banjo
Nice!

Also, ever heard of Gomez? I have three of their albums, but my favorite is "In Our Gun" Kinda indy, kinda tie-dyed, very talented.

They just released a new album, haven't downloaded it yet.

I think you need more Cowbell!

Nick, Try a little bit of Gov't Mule (Warren Haynes from the Allman Brothers). Really nice stuff. Check out all the free stuff on Nugs.net. All live jam band recordings. Ialso wholeheartedly second Bela Fleck.

Arctic Monkeys, and the Weakerthans

The new Bruce Springsteen, the Seeger Sessions, is really good too. Different than anything he (bruce) has done before.

Watching a Simpsons episode while typing, not a good thing. D'OH!

But heck, that brings up some more possibilities.

I prefer Buffalo Springfield over Rick Springfield!

I have been hearing Moody Blues and Supertramp on the radio lately, brings back memories!

this must be while you are on trips dave. I know that there are only 2 (3 if you count the pirate station) radio stations in Marfa, one AM and one FM and they dont play moody blues or supertramp...

I STRONGLY recommend anything by Lawrence Welk. In fact I think you should force everyone at Gastons to listen to this exciting and fun filled artiste!

I don't fully understand it Tony but we are getting a skip wave or something with an FM station in Minnesota.
We used to only have the local FM (yawn), a useless AM station, and we recently acquired NPR.
Still, internet is the #1 form of entertainment and non-local news.
(and it sux when the main provider is down for 3 days running -2 web, and 3 email that is)

its probably refracting off the marfa lights, thats the only logical explanation.

Wesley Willis. See if you can find him.

i was in London a few weeks ago and caught the show "We Will Rock You". It is based all on the music of Queen adn it was great. I had forgotten how much I liked that group. I have added a bunch of their stuff to my iPod.

Thanks guys. Keep 'em coming! And I second the suggestion to anyone for Gov't Mule. I had all their stuff already on my MP3 player. GOOD BAND!

Small world moment. I had downloaded ELO's Calling America video to my iPod in January. In february I was watching the video. If you recall they are standing in front of this weird factory with pipes and stuff all over the outside of it. The next I am taking a boat trip down the Seine in Paris and see that very same building!!

ELO is going to become cool, just like ABBA. you watch.

I thought ELO was 'cool', never thought ABBA was though. Eh, what do I know, I like some of Hilary Duff's and Britney Spears' music. My nieces give me grief over liking them.

J. Ralph, "Illusionary Movements of Geraldine & Nazu" is absolutely the best "IFR, flying between clouds" music I've ever found.

Nick since you are flying east you should dl "flying east" by Fourplay. I know I am prolly too late for this but NEXT YEAR!!!!!

Diana Krall

Blondie

Michael Bouble

Carol King

That would do just fine!

I can't believe no one has suggested any Buffett! Jimmy is standard equipment as far as I'm concerned.

No Plane on Sunday
Strange Bird
Gravity Storm
Treetop Flyer

Those are some off the top of my head with specific aviation reference, but all of his stuff is good.

I even think I saw some video of Keith Emerson taking flying lessons somewhere....
