Just watching Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. Man I love that plane more than ever. Now I will spend the next week trying to figure out how to get a ride in one. I seem to recall it was some sort of Ag plane only flown in Australia. Any other cool movie planes out there?

Hell Yes!!!

I always thought it would be cool to have one of these, in the exact same ratty look...

I couldn't however figure out yet, what type the MadMax gyrocopter was. Particularly the small stabilizers (or whatever they are called on gyros) were unlike anything I could find on the internet. The engine seems to be a Volkswagen Beetle conversion, what also seems uncommon for a basic gyro.

Apparently, the gyrocopters which they used in the movie were actually flying, as I found a report according to which one of them was later privately flown by one of the staff.

DUUUUUUUDE. I want an Airtruk

They must've had 10 in there in the Mad Max movie. It has to be true, the TV wouldn't lie! :D

Plus all the extra equipment tied to the wings and fuselage

No way it holds 6. I cant see how

Cabin below the pilot. It's Aussie, never buy anything that complex and handmade in Austrailia. At least once a day the phrase "she be right mate" will be used in the construction of it, and you never know what it may be.

I've got a 2 1/2 year old son, and we both are huge Dusty fans... so I'd love to have a Dusty Crophopper!

My birthday happened some time after I took my grandson to see Planes at the theater. He asked me a couple days before my birthday which was my favorite airplane in the movie. I knew he liked Dusty so I chose Skipper. I saw a slight disappointment cross his face and a couple days later he presented me with a Dusty for my birthday. I told him he couldn't have given me a more meaningful gift and keep Dusty proudly displayed on my dresser. Time wouldn't let us watch the second movie together until a few weeks ago. I plucked my Dusty off the dresser and sat it next to me for the movie. He is 10 now and a great bud. Haven't taken him flying yet as there is some slight hesitation on the parents part but someday we will go.

Would love to show him the full size Dusty. Where does it reside?

I think it's on tour.

Chances of getting grandson to OSH are slim and none. I searched but can't find that it is touring this year. I will keep looking.

Navions have made it to at least two movies. One's a made for TV Columbo movie Swan Song where Johnny Cash plays a pilot. The other was one of Rod Taylor's more obscure ones called "Family Flight."

Inauspicious appearances for both, if I remember right. Cash bails out of his airplane to kill his wife, and Taylor gets chopped by the prop trying to handprop the Navion....

That is a really nice aviation story.

Thanks for sharing...

This sole prototype of an Italian airliner was used in the film Roman Holiday with Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck, and scrapped not long thereafter.
