Any biplane flyers tried externally mounting a GoPro? If so, where did you put it/what mount did you use?

I'd like to mount a camera on the Waco. Roll bar clamp on one of the N-struts seemed like a logical spot, although I'm a little concerned about the potential airflow disruption over the ailerons (unlike a Stearman, the Wacos have 4 ailerons).

Other than the struts, everything else external is pretty much fabric.

I think the airflow disruption is pretty minimal. You're talking about an object 2-3 inches wide.

I wouldn't put it way out on the end of the wing, the movement will be visible. I don't have a plane yet, but I'm leaning toward somewhere around the main gear or a few feet off the cockpit on a wing...maybe on a lift strut.

I think it depends on what kind of shot you're looking for.

A buddy with a Great Lakes has a tube style clamp mount on the N-strut and another on the cabanes, both seem to work fine.

Drop the Waco off at my place. I'll fabricate the mounts and do the testing for you to find the ideal setup. The airplane should be ready for you to pick-up by mid-November.
