For those interested in the Sierra Wave and other unique Wx stuff, the link below takes you to a sight dedicated to the 'Terrain Induced Rotor Experiment' (T-REX)

Short version is that in 2003 and 2006 a series of experiments were made to more fully understand wave/rotor turbulence in an effort to better understand it and find a forecast means for aviation among other things.

Interesting for those making Mammoth/Bishop trips perhaps. Enjoy.
 
That is interesting. They're doing a similar study in the southwest portion of the CO plateau. They launch balloons from Cedar City, UT and track them from Page, AZ using ground based Doppler and capture the balloon downrange (AZ/Mexico border or as far east as Albuequerque.) The balloons ascend to 80,000 msl. Also, there are aircraft circling in race tracks at high altitude.
