More productive FAA

Who is saying that we need to spend more money and not fix the problem? You only suggested cutting wastful spending, cool great idea I like it. That does not fix the productive parts of the organization? I would love to cut all this junk spending we do. I know the Emoticons with heads beating against walls really drives your point and all, but consider that the "Old People" are the ones that gave the young ones this bureaucracy.

Not quite. Old people are the champions of gov't spending. It is old people that spend and consume gov't money. Young people are to a large extent fiscal conservatives, wait until they have the reins. We'll be making dog food out of old people.

Get off my lawn!

This is the problem. Too many chiefs and not enough Indians.

Can anyone explain why they need to have the concrete tested for x PSI rating when the concrete company certifies it already, and the concrete is just for cosmetic purposes between the alleys and the "T" hangar approaches. These are for GA small planes not 747s. :mad2:

It's called wasteful overkill.

Did you comment on the last pavement AC? These standards go out for public comment. Believe it or not, comments on ACs actually get read by the people who write them.

Could we go back to the original flawed question?

In order to determine whether or not FAA is "productive", one must clearly define the goods or services FAA is supposed to provide.

"Anything to do with aviation" is too broad, obviously.

Many of the responses so far are about airports... no one ever asked if FAA was ever supposed to build or fund airports, for example.

The ASSUMPTION from past efforts is that they are... but if you're truly looking for changes in efficiency, the best possible way to start is to first define what a vendor is supposed to provide, and whack away all that they aren't tasked with doing.

The WANTS are endless. The NEEDS are few.

Old people look at waste and cringe and try to economize and change things. Tom starting this thread for example.

I actually wanted to see if there were any good suggestions out there, but I guess not, mostly just bitchen about your pet pee'vs.

Most of us don't have enough info to even start answering the question, nor the time to look it up, even if it were available. Anyone seen a detailed budget for FAA anywhere?

That's probably problem number one... How does one get detailed numbers to analyze? Maybe they're out there, I don't know.

Still waiting on that promised "Google for Government"...

Just getting a list and prioritizing it is a lifetime job at the sizes we are talking about now of our government agencies.

Quite honestly, the only way to limit overspending and waste is to have a personal pet peeve and get that tiny thing fixed. By then, the hydra will have grown three more heads.

Which is what ultimately led to things like sequestration... "Just cut it all!" Which is of course, stupid and eats up even more time and resources.

 I thought my suggestion was pretty good, let the FAA/Airports have all the airport derived seizure money.

Because one time a contractor provided sub-standard materials and workmanship and the job had to be done a second time.

Less government and less regulations sounds good, but the fact of the matter is that specifications and hoops like that were put in AFTER the fact that a shoddy contractor cut corners.

If you think core testing some concrete is driving the expense you are likely missing the bigger cost drivers.

I can see it now. Some southern airport needs a new runway so they hire the craziest bastard in town to go to Mexico and fly a shipment of expensive contraband to their airport, give him enough time to abandon the airplane on the ramp, and then the airport manager calls in an anonymous tip. Hahaha.

the question wasn't about the numbers.

how can the FAA do a better than the archaic methods they use now.

Some of the answers here amaze me, but I'm not surprised. It is a generational thing now.

Old people look at things to figure out how to do it for the least amount of money.

Young people look at it and don't care what it costs because it's government money. :mad2:

Old people look at waste and cringe and try to economize and change things. Tom starting this thread for example.

Young people send a tweet about Justin B. or go on Facebook and can care less. :mad2:

Young people say "This is the way it has always been so who cares? Old people suck." :mad2:

Old people say; "Get off my lawn." :mad2:

And nothing changes except continued growing inefficiencies and wasteful spending. :mad2:

I'm not old, but I agree wholeheartedly. And just for kicks, I'd like to ask, how old are most of the folks in charge of all the wasteful programs, agencies, congress, etc.

I don't know much about the FAA leadership, but in my humble opinion, most of the waste, fraud, abuse, and generally poor decision making in regards to the federal government, is done by 60's hippie-ass pinko libs

You DO realize you used Productive and FAA in the same sentence don't you??? That's like saying "Supersonic Cub" :dunno:

Actually the quote was

what would you suggest the FAA do to make it more productive on less money.

I'll add fire 2/3rds of the lawyers on staff. we have enough rules already.
