Cowboy - yeehah!
You can't make this shyte up. I'm filling out the online version of the FAA 337. It used to be confined to two simple pages that we are all familiar with. Now, the FAA in their infinite wisdom has added a paperwork reduction act notice to the 337 form. And guess what. Yep - it changes the form from two(front, back) to three pages!

http://www.faa.gov/documentLibrary/media/form/faa337.pdf

The ONLY thing on page three is the paperwork reduction act notice.

Paperwork Reduction Act. Not Paper Reduction Act.

Paperwork Reduction Act. Not Paper Reduction Act.

LOL. True.

But they have 48 CFR 52.204-4 to reduce use of paper by printing double sided on recycled paper.

I do wonder who dreams these things up.... A lot of mindless drones out there writing regulations.

Paperwork Reduction Act. Not Paper Reduction Act.

OK, I'll bite - how did adding the notice to the 337 reduce paperwork?

A. It has to be printed, or the form isn't complete.

B. It has to be included with each 337 and sent to the FAA.

C. It has to be then filed/kept by the FAA.

So, how does adding a page with a notice on it accomplish the stated goal of the act?

2006 according to the form. It's been a while since I filled one out online. The last one the A&P did had only the one page front and back, and that was in 2011.

That's because he didn't print the last page

Read the notice again, and the answer should reveal itself.

You do realize that in almost every computer program you can choose to print specific pages, and omit others, yes?

I read it. I also printed whatever I want. Are you really defending the addition of this notice to the 337? You must work for the FAA. :mad2:

I'm saying you don't need to print the 3rd page. The Paperwork Reduction Act has nothing to do with the amount of paper. IOW, I can develop a computer program that will eliminate the need to do the same work over and over and over - which is what the PRA does but I probably still need to print out a manual (or notice) that we are using the new program (PRA).

Well, it looks like it's no problem. Let's have more regs like this then.

/sarcasm

This one's on Congress. Paperwork Reduction ACT. The act requires the notice, IIRC.

Cheers

I was hoping that the FAA would have changed the form to include the ACT notice at the bottom of page 2(back), and then the check box for more pages as necc. But no, seems everyone else is fine with the way it's printed. As is often the case, I'm not in the mainstream thinking here. Somehow that gives me satisfaction.

Or alternatively we have been doing this our entire adult lives and have learned
1 to pick our battles
2 getting mad at the FAA only adds to our stress and shortens our lives

Re: More FAA brilliance. 337 form now has a "paperwork reduction act" and adds a page

The USAF holds the prize.
Before the Reinventing Government initiative in the 90s, the air transportation of hazardous goods reg was like 50 pages.
They rewrote the reg to 6 pages, with 50 pages of appendices.

The appendices don't count as pages of regs. So officially, the reg went from 50 pages to 5, while actually growing 6 pages.

1. I've battled the FAA and won before.
2. Look at the last thing in the opening post. Does that look like mad? Not me.
