Sounds like a committee decision not a rash one. Wonder if the manual or experience shows bad outcomes from landing gear up in that plane.

I like " the RCAF doesn't actually own the aircraft".

"Hellyeah, punch out boys, she's a rental!"
 
May have had one main gear down and one up. Hope they had renters insurance.
