In another case of the media totally not understanding aviation, or maybe just a very slow news day, the fact that Air Force One did a missed approach land made the national news wires today. How would you like it if every time you did one of those maneuvers it was put on the news?

Edit: Oops, I just saw it's being discussed in another thread.

But the real news there was we got to see Ahnold's baby mama! Just... damn... you gotta be kidding right? Will his political career survive the wrath of the Kennedy Clan? Will he get the Latino vote now? Will his life become a Sitcom or a Soap Opera?

Note to self: Don't bang the help.

Wrath? This revelation is absolutely Kennedyesque.

AF1 is the most important aircraft in the air. How do you or me even come close to that importance?

I think it a big deal when equipment like AF1 does something unexpected. Going missed is not expected therefore it is newsworthy. AF1 going missed is as newsworthy as a 121 carrier encountering a flock of geese on departure.

HOW the event is reported by boneheaded journalists is an entirely different subject.

As a former skydiver, firearms owner, and now pilot . . . It is beyond frustrating and only occasionally amusing that the media almost never handles these subjects well. :mad2:

The missed approach was a non-event. Period. Next . . . . :rolleyes2:

You know the media almost never handles those subjects well because you're familiar with those subjects. How well does the media cover subjects you're not not as familiar with?

That is exactly why I don't listen to the news.

Credibility is like virginity. Lost only once. When I read story after story that mangles the facts about subjects that I know well why I should I think they've gotten it right about the other stuff out there?

I guess it's because journalism is essentially dead. I rarely read a story these days that even covers the five Ws or fact-checks much of anything. Don't even get me started on the pi$$poor grammar and spelling. I've read "news" stories that quote almost word for word from industry press releases I found just from a cursory google search. Not good. :nonod:
