Did anyone other than me order one today?

Keeping my MAXiPAD as a dedicated foreflight and flight planning device. The MINiPAD will be the entertainment device.

I would think a MAXiPAD would be the opposite of an entertainment device.

Won't order until they're in the field and we see what problems they have... I pay to be a beta-tester enough with things. :)

Buy all my iDevices through the Apple refurb store so it will be a while, I hope.

The lightning connector is a bit of a turn off as well. If I do get one eventually, I suppose I will have to get a Bluetooth GPS to replace my Bad Elf.

Cheers

Why is that?

It will need an adapter to connect between the iPad and Bad Elf which it will make it more prone to be knocked out or disconnect than currently. I have not had any problem so far but another half inch or so protusion out the end can't be good.

Cheers

You could try the adapter cable? http://i5kit.com/products/lightning-to-30-pin-cable

Might be a cheaper way to go in the long run.

I rarely lose the internal GPS signal that I have to pull the BadElf out of the flight bag.
Does the mini not have GPS?

Apple said the cellular capable mini's with the GPS chip, will be available mid November. I think you can still order them, but won't get it for another three weeks.

My particular experience with my iPhone GPS was it was ok airborne but more often than not it had me making missed approaches on Touch and Gos with CloudAhoy.

My iPad is wifi only so thus the Blue Elf. I will keep it for use with my iPod/iPhone use and likely a Dual for the mini iPad for ForeFlight, if I get one.:wink2:

Never had a need for a cell capable iPad.

Cheers
