Thought I'd share a side hobby of mine. I've been making MineCraft videos and posting them on YouTube in a Let's Play series.

MineCraft is, IMO, pretty amazing. Its a game that presents endless possibilities as it's more of a platform really. If you strictly play the game it's a ton of fun, but with basic game mechanics you can really make it into whatever you like.

My kids and I logged into a LAN and played against each other. Immediately we thought of the idea to play a version of Hunger Games where we all tried to kill each other. It was a total blast. Turns out, Hunger Games is an entire genre of MineCraft and we were by no means the first to think of it. There are entire servers dedicated to it.

Anyway, thought I'd share. Here is the latest video I posted to YouTube. If you've wondered what I sound like wonder no more.

I have never played, by my 11 year old son plays (probably too much)

That game got me through most classes in high school. Really fun, but it can waste way too much time. Kind of grew out of it in college and decided it wasn't the most productive thing to do with my time. That said, I do miss it now and then when I just want to chill in front of a computer screen.

I think about half the time when I look over my son's shoulder, he isn't actually playing the game, he is watching videos about MC. I have know idea what the videos are all about? Looking for special blocks, strategies, mods?

Speaking of mods: a year ago he convinced me to download a mod. Against my own best judgement, I agreed. Some virus came along with it. Bad stuff.

My 8 year old plays. Definitely too much. One of his friends has a private server, and they'll play on it for hours.

It's the "in" thing among the elementary school crowd. Something like Legos were when I was a kid.

There is even an airplane mod. I keep telling my kid I can take him up in a real 152….and yes, an 8 year old can fly a 152 (though taking off and landing is difficult, as it's hard to reach the rudder pedals at that age). But he seems to prefer the Minecraft version.

Ditto. Step kids of 7 and 10 play it way too much. It's all the rage. They have t shirts, stickers, posters, etc.

We gotta find you a job. :)

My 6 year old loves to craft the mind.

I second that! My free time gets blown away with that game. It's fun mass murdering little green men trying to get to the Mun.

I'm to the point now where I can crash into the moon at half a mile per second. Progress is progress LOL

My first Duna aerobrake landing I impacted the only mountain range going 8,000 M/S. I only needed 100 meters to clear the ridge. :mad2: Somehow the crew module and a bit of the landing system survived. I actually wish I had video of it.

A) I basically have to periodically ban my 9 year old from the computer otherwise he'd be doing this all day and all night

B) I only watched the first 30 seconds or so because I had to stop when you said "mostly I've been working with sheep". LOL. Sheep.

Lol, I see your point. But hey, sheep are important!
