It there a way to search the members list by location? I'm interested in knowing who is nearby.

On the Members List, over on the right side is a Members Search function. Hit the link, then click on Advanced Search. You can search for any of the Members fields in there.
A search for AZ in Location field turned up three entries (one was mine).
You might have to play with it a little to get your results tuned.
