My employer, www.alpineaccess.com was acquired by www.sykes.com yesterday, pending SEC approval, etc.

The new CEO is making airplane analogies about the merger announced yesterday, and sounds like he's actually knowledgeable...

Stuff about instrument vs non-instrument flying. Phraseology was accurate. Interesting.

Somehow I take that as a good sign. Maybe he's a pilot. ;)

I'll refrain from the temptation to look him up in the FAA Database. :)

As the old joke on Slashdot goes...

"I for one, welcome our new Corporate Overlords!"

I guess things are growing in some areas of tech again for the moment. I've had two phone calls asking if I wanted to jump ship. Sheesh.

It's hard to find qualified people, but it's interesting that folks hear the merger announcement and start dialing immediately trying to snag people.

I could rattle off a bunch of statistics, but the fact is that the first couple of months after a merger - er acquisition - is announced is prime time to snatch folks. Some will leave on their own, some will leave out of fear (after all, it's rare that an acquisition actually increases employment), and some just won't make the cut. That's what "retention bonuses" are for....

Recruiters also know that most long-term incentive plans (options/restricted stock/phantom stock/etc) accelerate vesting upon change of control. If folks get a pay day with no retention bonus, then they're candidates to leave - especially if they can offer a signing bonus.

Good folks ARE hard to come by, and hiring is good in some companies and sectors. In the DC area, there are plenty of good pay jobs if one has a high level clearance....

Sure are alot of Sykes that have their certificates. Hard to know for sure. :(

Good luck with the new owners. A company I worked for once was acquired and just our badges changed.

They're based in Lakeland, FL. That could come in handy once a year... ;)

Yes, good luck with the management change. Being the acquired company often isn't fun, but hopefully will work out to your benefit.

Yes, good luck with the management change. Being the acquired company often isn't fun, especially for the flight department for which the term "screwed like a tied goat" is the most-often outcome.

FTFY:wink2:

Ha, Wayne! We were way too small to have a flight department... unless you count me wandering around in the 182 on vacations. ;)

I'll send you some shoulder boards for the next staff meeting. BTW, what's the little airport just east of 24? Drove by it on Thursday leaving COS for Limon.

Meadowlake. Used to be 00V, and even stupid Google Maps still shows it as that, even though it's been changed for years. They got a "vanity" Airport Identifier, so to speak... KFLY!

Little fly-in community, pretty nice place, actually.

That's a long drive from COS to LIC. Ugh...

We left Aspen at 0815 for BV (over the pass) had lunch with only surviving uncle an WW-II P40 and p51 pilot in COS, left at 1430 and drove to Hayes, KS. Long day indeed.

The bank I work for was bought in March. RBC (in the US) became PNC. Now we find out that PNC doesn't want the division I work for, so they're selling off our division to Union Bank. :mad2: :mad2: :mad2:
