You may remember I adopted a wonderful dog, Jake, back in 2005.

He’s of course no longer with us, and we’re down to one little white dog, Halo.

I guess it’s natural to want to “duplicate” a favorite dog. Jake was clearly not a Shiba Inu, too large for one, but had a lot of the characteristics. Both Karen and I were ready for a second dog and were both attracted to Shiba Inu’s. Karen was browsing the web for one, and stumbled upon a family that had to get rid of their pedigreed Shiba because their young child turned out to be allergic.

They were not far away, somewhere south of Atlanta and they agreed to meet us halfway in Alpharetta, GA.

She really is a sweetheart! Let the adventure begin!

I got to fly two Shibas for PNP a number of years ago. Cute babies. Congrats on the new member of the family!

Still no to the flying - be pretty tight in the Sky Arrow.

But today is one year since “Gotcha Day”. She’s been a wonderful companion and is spoiled rotten.

She was about 22 lbs when we got her. A couple weeks ago we suspected she might be getting a little chunky and weighed her. At 28 lbs she’s not yet fat, but we have cut back on her portion sizes at meal time and have pared off a couple pounds so far.

We try to take her to the dog park at least a couple times a week. She plays well with the other dogs. And she has a stalking behavior where she crouches and waits for her prey to come into range and then POUNCES, charging at them and breaking away at the last second. It really is adorable, and is what they were bred to do.

She’s now 4, and we hope to have many happy and healthy years ahead with her.

Her face on that couch certainly does say “I’ve got them wrapped around my little paw”. Our girl does too. So it goes with our furry companions :)
