Medical Question for Doc Bruce

Fifty years old. My last 3rd Class was 14 months ago during which the Doc noted a slightly higher than normal BP, but low enough to pass. Earlier this year, I went to the doctor for an unrelated issue (sinus infection) and my GP was unhappy with my BP. Did an EKG --- no issues.

GP prescribed Lisinopril and BP has been perfectly normal (avg 120/80) ever since (couple of followup visits to be sure). All other indications are good as is general health (could stand to lose a few pounds, of course, which would help BP).

I know you (Dr. Bruce) have said that the process post BP scrip is fairly easy (note from GP and normal EKG). My question is, do I need to do that on the next normal cycle for 3rd Class or do I have to do it now to be good to go?

This would be easier if my GP were FAA approved. Just trying to avoid the expense and hassle of another 3rd class right now if I can help it.

You continue to fly so long as you can self certify until your next medical. You need at that time:

EKG
Serum Creatinine, fasting Glucose, Lipid profile
CURRENT at the time of reapplication letter from you doc stating you "are WELL controlled, no side effects, and are not being followed for Coronary Disease."

The problem is that the labs from the time of starting the Lisinopril will be old news. Some pilots report NOW with a new 3rd class so that they won't have to get another repeat bunch of lab....it's about economics, really.
