Some hacker banned me from MarkB's chat room tonight. So be careful when using it. I sent him an email to tell him of it.

Well considering the number of published vulnerabilities in flashchat and the unpublished ones I've found combined with the attacks PoA has suffered via Flashchat it is pretty obvious that using it will result in such a thing. There is a reason we pulled it.

I hope to have the replacement up soon.

Is there a chance I'll be able to use the replacement?
Unfortunately, the product that we have chosen, requires flash. Flash is a fairly common plugin for most people. It certainly beats making people load a complicated java applet which is less common. There isn't a solution out there that won't be of disadvantage to at least one user.

If you are not willing to install flash, no, it will not work for you.

Not sure I understand what's so complicated about installing a java applet. They seem to be a lot more stable than flash apps in my limited experience.

Java in itself has traditionally been more of a PITA to install because of Sun's licensing terms. Recently they have changed the license in a way that should eliminate this.

As far as the stability of flash--I agree that an entire *flash* application is questionable. But Realchat is not an *entire flash application*. It just uses flash in a couple parts. It's mostly all AJAX.

Geez Jesse.. Why don't you just write a new chat program? I know you have infinite amounts of time just sitting around twiddling your thumbs. ;)

Countdown until Jesse starts working out the scripting logic in his head... 3.... 2... 1...

:D :D :D

The issue with the hacker has been fixed. It was an error on my part.

Are we going to be test driving some other programs or are we going with the one that is being tested now?

LOL. I hate to rehash old posts (actually, no I love it), but after the last few years of iPhone/iPad love for not allowing flash, I saw this and it made me chuckle.

How do you install Flash on a Mac or iPad?

On a Mac it is easy. On an iPad it's not. We implemented this chat solution YEARS before the iPad even existed. Nick is just being a PITA.

How is that different from any other day?
