I'm looking to make a major change (fixed pitch to constant speed prop). I want to retain my current AWC and its limitations. My understanding is even though my current OL's don't explicitly state "file a new 8130-6", one will be needed to update the aircraft registry.

Does filing a new 8130-6 automatically get me a new 8130-7, which will have more constricted OL's under 8130.2M that dropped in late July? Or, is there a way to use the 8130-6 solely as a mechanism to update the prop info and continue happily with what I have?

Might be one for @Brad Z

You posted this in the avionics section, probably should be in the experimental section.

Yes, filing an 8130-6 will get you a new AWC and updated operating limitations, and the FAA may want to inspect the plane. Are your current OLs the old style that says, "a major change invalidates the airworthiness certificate?" If so, or if the phase 1 test area isn't where the plane is currently based, you have no choice but to get a new AWC and OLs. Later OLs just say the FAA must be notified in the event of a major change and their response received, but don't require a new AWC.
