What, if any, thoughts have passed through the ether concerning health standards for aircraft maintenance personnel?

Just curious and NOT asking for a friend.

Certainly alcoholism or substance abuse would be true negatives! Organized repair stations have policies on that......

Not really

IMHO there should be more emphasis on proper practices.

Early in life they had me cleaning parts with MEK .

No gloves or respirators.

It was common to wash oil from hands with 115/145.

One guy was always SPOTLESS. He secret was opening fire extinguishers

and dipping items in carbon tet. No longer with us.

Spraying Imron with just a rag over his face. Deceased.

Too often young kids are given tasks without proper guidance and

equipment.

Who do YOU blame?

In addition to maintenance, there should be talk about flight attendants. No health standards whatsoever.

magman...early in life I was standing in a cloud of atrazine with a paper mask. YGMKM!
Then we had the "weee don't need no stinking headset" era...with the 90" Hamilton Std. blade going by the left ear....

Nobody to blame. Survival is an amazing thing. Humans are TOUGH to kill.

In the 1990s I was a volunteer municipal and an industrial firefighter. We didn’t think about fire residues or AFFF (I’m sure I’m loaded in PFAS). Ate with dirty hands. Never washed my gear, we joked that it was bad luck. Stupid kid.

It was a transitional period in PPE. At least we wore SCBA, but the veterans called us pu**ies. They would wear their hip boots and we’d wear the full pants.

Now there are washers/extractors on the job for gear that get washed almost daily, and smart hygiene.

As kids we drank from a garden hose ...

Hey, wait a minute, we're NOT supposed to drink from a garden hose???

On a more serious note, I am working with some folks who are doing personnel sampling in an aviation maintenance facility with regards to VOC and lead exposure.

Did you have a particular exposure scenario in mind, or overall for the job?
