My engine has about 10 or 12 hours on four new ECI cylinders. Someone else has been flying my 'Hawk while working on his CFI rating. Today I flew her for exactly 2.0 hours, all Takeoffs-Landings, pattern work, and 1 emergency engine-out simulation. The tanks at start were filled to the caps. When I topped-off she took 9.74 Gal. @ $5.40 per gal. Do the math: that's a burn rate of 4.87 gph. Can that be? If so, I'm ecstatic. I had always erred on the side of caution and flight planned at 9.0 gph. ???

Yeah, that's possible if you spend most of the time pulled back to pattern speeds and doing some glide to landing.

You need to do a 3+ hr cross country and then figure the fuel planning.
All those ups and downs skew the numbers.

I plan about 12 gph with the O-540 for glider tow operations, a lot of full power up and reduced power down.

Bigger question, how is the oil consumption?

Bill: That's another matter about which I'm smiling. Thinking it would be normal for the new cylinders to burn some oil during break-in, I have several quarts at the ready. Thus far, none has been required. :o)
