Anyone want to go to the Mall of America? I'll be there in a few hours.
 
How about a little more notice next time??!!

I was thinking of going NEXT week on part of my week off... a friend is going up to Albert Lee, MN, I think he said, to get his commercial/CFI and I was going to go watch, have fun, and then shop some. He mentioned that the airport is not very far from the MOA. :D

I've been to Albert Lee and toured the training facilities there. The closest airport to the Mall of America would be MSP International, you could probably get one of the two FBOs there to drop you of at the light rail station and ride to the Mall. It would probably be costly though.

Otherwise the next closest airports are FCM, STP, or SGS. You'd need to drive or get a cab from those places.

If you wanted to drive straight from AEL to the Mall, it'd probably be close to 2 hours by car.
 
My plane is at Signature at MSP. I've got crew cars before to go and they will give you a ride. Take your pick. Today I just walked from the hotel as it was a nice day. Grabbed a couple geocaches on the way. Nice to have a day off after yesterdays 15.2 hour day!

Btw, y'all too late for lunch. I'm paying the check now at Famous Dave's.

More notice next time. With notice I could even pick you up and drvie you there from airport.
 
Well, I've decided to go back to MOA to get a new ipad3...wife be damned. A day of OT will pay for it and I've done a few of 'em.

Besides, I could sell my iPad1 for around half the cost (64GB WiFi). Could you guys please call my wife and ask her to relax?

Famous Dave's... meh. Next time... try Bubba Gump's Shrimp Co. or else Hooter's or Johnny Rocket's as a second choice. And what did you think about the big ramp charge at Signature?? I remember something like $50.00 maybe 10?? years ago the first time I went to the MOA and I never went back. More recently I've been using STP (Downtown) and most recently FCM (Eden Prairie) and those have worked out well, even though they aren't right across the street from the Mall. Live and learn... I was planning on visiting the airport in Albert Lea next week... I've never been there and then hop on over to FCM.
 
Well, I'm still in MSP. Probably go over to MoA in a few hours. Bubba Gumps sounds good.

Don't know what the ramp fee is. We don't pay it as our company has a contract with Signature nation wide. Our gas is quite a bit cheaper than retail too.

You can take the Hiawatha line from MSP and it will drop you off at the front door, might be easier than messing with a crew car and driving.
 
Thanks, but I've been holed up in a hotel for the past four days. It's walking distance. Looks like I may actually get to fly today. The plane is fixed I hear.
 
I would imagine you are in most parts of the USA at any given time. With advanced notice (if you can), you'll probably be able to grab lunch or dinner or drinks with a POA member.

For example, I know a captain on here who sends me a text when he's in my area, often on less than 24 hours' notice (that's how they fly). I even got to invite him into my little 172 for a flight, it was super fun!!! The other time I saw him I drove him from his plane to dinner before his next flight.
 
I wouldn't want to get a reputation of being a sailor with a girl in every port now!

Relax, he's married, and I even got a note in the mail from his wife (I sent her something).

Meeting with a girl doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong.
 
Me thinks she doth protest too much!

Although the wording is a bit backwards since it's Kim's port and she's not the one off in all directions. She just lets the sailors visit. I can see how that would save money. lol

Not really. I often do reserve the airplane, and, even if the sailors help with that, I still have to pay at least half (or more). It still costs me money and, oh yeah, one of the sailors I like the most is a chick. I hope to fly with her again when she is in my port this month or next. She is coming here from out of town.
 
So much for lunch in KSAC. Vancouver instead...

Make sure you get your wife's permission. I always ask the sailors if their wives know they are with me. I don't want some angry woman with a knife coming after me. I have a boyfriend and these meetings are strictly aviation related. No drama.

Um yeah, this is the 'Lunch' thread. I avoid the 'crazy orgy with people I just met' thread.

Thrut be told I'm seldom in one spot very long. Lunch is often a crew car to Subway.
 
Well if you know you're coming to IAD or DCA, give me a day's notice and I can generally get free.
 
No DCA, I'm not allowed.

But I get to IAD Often enough.

Send your wife the the Fly-B-Q. There'll be enough gadget-fiends there to convince her that it's not an expense, it's a necessary investment in aviation safety.
 
Ah, hard to justify. Company gives me an iPad 2. But it's all locked down so it's only good for work stuff.

Darn it, I've been planning this for over a month:

Leaving work at 1:30pm for Dentist teeth cleaning (over an hour North) at 3pm.

Yah, I need to switch dentists. But the BF is north.

Sorry, rain check? That would have totally worked for me otherwise.

Are you here often? When is the next time? How much notice do you have, that is less than 24 hours?
 
I NEVER have more than 24 hours. Heck, I've been Enroute and had the sat phone ring and change our destination...or a pax has tapped me on the shoulder and changed the destination.

In fact, I'd give the plan now (SFO at 6'ish) to only have an 80% chance of happening. Makes it hard to make plans. I just tell my relatives that I may fall out of the sky and if you're busy then thats fine. If not then great we can hook up.

No worries. I get to SFO often enough. Next time. For some reason I bought until recently you were in SAN area.

Where is SAN?

Here is where I am:

Weekdays: best / easiest. I work / live about an hour north of SFO.

Weekends / Friday nights: I'm often another 1-2 hours north of SFO.

I'm relatively close to OAK, Napa (APC) and other "Bay Area" airports.
 
SAN = San Diego

I get to OAK and APC often enough. If I think of it I'll post again if I swing through. I mostly do turns all day but I can always make time to give a Piaggio tour.
 
SAT is a cool town. I love the 'River Walk' area. Isn't that where South by SouthWest is held? Lotta cool stuff going on in SAT.

I'll keep it in mind.


Btw, I must read through a few of my posts here and realized I WAY over use the phrase 'often enough'. Sorry for that...
