West Texas haboob:
I flew into lbb once when a milder one had just blown in; markedly lacking in fun.

Raced a dust storm back to Reese AFB one afternoon. Saw it cover KLBB and the town. Really creepy. It actually rained mud a few times during the year I was there. Don't miss that at all.

Wow, that looks very un-fun. In California, as one POA pilot pointed out to me recently, I can AVOID major problems such as earthquakes if I'm airborne in a little airplane! I won't even feel the ground shake.

I landed shortly after this quake, in the darkness. It is hard to drive from the mind those images of 2 foot crevasses in the runway (blame Hollywood for that) as you are flaring. There was no one on the radio, and emergency vehicle lights at the fbo - we'd heard about the quake via another a/c at a distant airport just a few mins earlier. It turned out to be no problem :)

> rained mud

I was overflying Amarillo once, and metar (via XM) was for "blowing mud." That was
worth the chat with FSS ... who confirmed the metar. Yikes!
