This photo is of me flying my Rans S-7LS over 11,600 foot Corona Pass at better than 13,000 feet on a nice summer day.

Even with two people, my S-7 easily outperforms my students’ 180 HP Piper Cherokee with a constant-speed prop.

KGNB is located at 8,200’ MSL, and regularly sees 10,000 plus foot density altitudes, and my Rans performs admirably.

Beautiful plane, awesome picture ... color me jealous.

I live in Angel Fire, New Mexico where our airfield is at 8,380. I wrapped up my PPL and my Mountain Flying course in a Remos GX LSA, with dozens of flights over the mountains to KAXX. The Remos doesn't have the same level of performance as the Cherokee 180 that I just bought into with its 100hp Rotax, but I'm not scared to fly it in the mountains. The secret is patience. Don't expect to climb at 500 fpm on a 70 degree day, and be ready to circle for a while before trying to cross over the mountains.

I have found that even a Skycatcher performs surprisingly well in the mountains.
