Got the day off so I'm going to go take a little cross-country flight to KSHD and then to KHSP. Going to enjoy a little time in the valley before heading back to Richmond. This is really the first cross country flight since I got my license. Everything else has been just sight-seeing with my kids or my tailwheel training.

KHSP looks cool! have fun, post pics!

It is supposedly the highest airport east of the Mississippi. Right on top of the mountain.

Awesome, sounds like fun! Take some pictures for us!

I'll be in your area on saturday, heading to FVX.

Flying into KSHD is fun. I want to fly into KHSP too although I bet the winds can get nasty there.

Didn’t make it to Ingalls Field. A little rougher than I wanted. Made it to Shenandoah, then went toward ingalls before deciding to head back to Richmond.

Had a 20kt headwind going out there so it took a while but at 6500 it was smooth and really nice flying

Ended up putting in 3.5 hours in the air which is my longest flight to date.

pics are from Shenandoah

Wow, that is cool, reminds me of the Sedona airport pics I've seen. Not my pic:

Yep. I was >2000ft above the ridges and was getting tossed around a little. I figured being a new pilot, I should wait for a better day.

also 3.5 hours in a Tecnam P92 is exhausting!

Supposedly, you can camp there too. Unfortunately, renting doesn’t make overnights practical with the minimum time charges. Plan on doing a camp out there when I get my own plane.
Camping there is also on my list. I believe it’s also an RAF supported field.
