Looking for XGPS190 PIREP

Expensive!

I'd look into then DIY Pi ADSB stuff, or just look out the windows and save the money for avgas

Out the window doesn't get me weather 400nm away.

I have a 170, but not the 190. The 170 does all that is expected.

IMO most ga singles aren't going fast enough where they need to really worry about that distance, it's nice, but frankly at under 180kts you got enough time to watch trends as you go.

The wx is nice for planning, however it's not more then a hundred or so bucks worth of value. IMHO.

I've had flights where, unforecast, BKN040 went to OVC001 in less than 2 hours. I routinely do flights of 3+hrs and 500+ nm miles. It's worth way more than 100 bucks. Plus, how do I get a trend at a place 500nm away after im airborne? Flightwatch/FSS is a joke.

You've never had a humble opinion since you joined the board, get the H out.

Easy killer

By trending I was thinking more like how the wx is looking, like as in eyeballs, as you go, the OAT and altimeter settings as you're pressing on, that type of thing.

To each their own, depending on your altitude you can pick up ATIS, AWOS, ASOS stations a decent ways out too.

Ether way, if you just have to have weather in a small 130kt ish single engine GA plane, just get a Pi, same stuff, if not more and it costs way less, nowadays I don't understand why anyone would pay SOO much for a stratus or the box the OP was looking at.

James, I have to say, my post count in ten years has been 1/10 of what yours is in only 1.5 years. I try to respond only if I can contribute. My original post stated, "If you have one, I'd be interested in your take on it", so please don't take this personally, but...

I could give a **** if you think:

1. It's expensive, or that you'd look into then DIY Pi ADSB stuff, or if you think I should just look out the windows and save the money for avgas.
2. Most ga singles aren't going fast enough where they need to really worry about that distance, it's nice, but frankly at under 180kts you got enough time to watch trends as you go.
3. The wx is nice for planning, however it's not more then a hundred or so bucks worth of value

So please, if you're only interested in upping your thread count with totally useless and off-point comments, go do it on the red board where it's expected.

I mearly mentioned to look at the Pi systems, god forbid I get between someone and spending more then they have to.

I've had the XGPS 170 for several years now and would't fly without it. I've made two trips across the US (WA to VA and then back 2 years later). I've also made multiple flights up and down both coasts. Those flights included some very sparsely used airspace and some VERY busy traffic areas. I do some local, but also a bunch of long distance VFR flying. Having detailed weather show up on my tablet in flight is huge benefit for those longer trips. I can modify my route in flight to avoid the really bad stuff and I get plenty of advanced warning about big weather systems in time to get comfortably on the ground before the flight turns into crises management. I always thought my scan for other traffic was good, but seeing the traffic on my tablet generated by the XGPS-170 in busy areas (when triggered by an ADS-B out signal) surprised me with how much I was missing. I'll get my own ADS-B out system later this year, but will keep the XGPS-170 for incoming weather and traffic. Since I've demoted myself to VFR flight (my current plane is not a good IFR platform even though I have my rating) I have no need for the synthetic vision offered by the XGPS-190, out the higher cost of that unit.
