bout this time every year we get short days and cooler temps around here And we start thinking about going to some place warm.

But I wouldn't like just setting in a camp ground wishing I had some thing to do.

So, I'd like to find an airport that would allow us to park the coach and play airplane where it is warm. Private, county, or state airports as long as no body has a fit about us camping there.

I dont know if youd be willing to come all the way to Florida but I recently heard 8FD3 was reopened. Its owned by the Dept of Ag and Div of Forestry and is in the middle of a state park where there are multiple camping sites. If you contacted them they might let you stay at the airport (I do know that people have camped there overnight but I dont know about an extended stay). Beautiful area.

On closer inspection, it is literally right next to a lake where I have gone to before where I know that there is camping and electrical hookups.

Tom, Gillespie County, Texas (T82) is a great airport, lots to do around there, and the County Fairgrounds across the street include an RV area with hook ups.

Edit:

And yes, it is warm.

"Rocking M" Walt might revoke your landing priviledges for not suggesting his place.

Tom, look up www.t14airport.com and call Walt Meziere. Now known as the Rocking M Airport, T14 might be the spot you're seeking. Close enough to Dallas that you can enjoy activities there, yet not so close that you feel crowded by the big city. Just south of a towered Class-D (Greenvile Majors) when you need a bigger airport. And Walt is about as addicted to certified and experimental aviation as you'd ever find. He would be an excellent host for your extended stay.

Walt is also a member here, look for "WaltM"

Wow! An area dedicated to RV's!!!! That is my kind of airport!

;)

Tom, check out the Phoenix area. They are RV friendly also. ;)

Curious...

How do you get both the plane and coach there? Or would you not take a plane?

You might check out Petit Jean State Park in AR. They have a campground on the field that is reserved for fly-in campers. It's also on a small lake that lies immediately S of the runway. Across the lake is a "regular" campground with full services for RV's.

Cool area. Bobby Day is right around the corner.

Edit: Don't know what you're into besides planes but there's great hiking and fishing in the area and, if you like the ponies, Oaklawn's season opens in early January. It's a little over an hour down the road...and a beautiful drive getting there.

Oceano might fit the bill. It is right on Pismo Beach. They have highs of about 75 now and there is an RV campground a couple of hundred feet outside the gate and tent camping on the field.

That looks interesting, but for an extended stay we would need full hook ups.

We would have a tool box with us and could do annuals while we are there.

Tom, I bet you could find plenty of takers on this board who'd love for you to stop through for a week and do owner-assisted annuals with them. Unfortunately, the weather here won't be what you're looking for until June or so!

Call him anyhow... he might have them now. He spent most of his summer making lots of big improvements to the grounds and runway rather than dinking with a web page.

fly back and get it.

I used to do that when I had my company and built O'Reilly stores all over the east half of the country.

I'd drive my truck out on my first trip to a new job. Leave it there so it was there to drive. Fly home commercially. Then fly back and forth in my plane on subsequent trips.

Prepare yourself for some extra special attention from the TSA when flying one way. Pucker up, baby!

Boy, I'm glad I no longer do that...
