I'm going to be in Long Beach, CA., soon on business, and want to steal away for an hour, grab a plane and instructor, and go see what there is to see. Any recommendations at Long Beach Airport?

Bill-

Talk to Candy or Sue at the Long Beach Flying Club/Flight Academy (if Matt is still there, he's a good guy to talk with as well). 562-290-0421 Very nice folks, rented from them for ~3 years and got my instrument and commercial with them. Some of the planes are kinda old, but are maintained well. They have fairly new Symphony and a new 172SP as well.

California Flight Center is good too, but all their planes are quite expensive - though if you're looking for some glass-cockpit fun, they've got it.

The problem with LGB flying club, is they expect montly dues. I too used to be a member. But for a one day deal, you could find plenty other FBOs to rent from out there.

I'm sure they'd do a one-time ride without the dues (it's pretty cheap anyway, like $15/month). They do intro/demo rides all the time.

Heck ya, Rainbow Air, I think they're still off the end of 25 Left on Spring St. If you wanna fly a 152, they still have 271RJ, the first plane in my logbooks. If you go there, say hi to Ray for me.
