Anyone been there? We're hoping to fly to Galveston tomorrow to check it out. I've been told we can taxi right up to the door -- true?

PIREP, anyone?

Thanks!

I went there a few years ago - was on my bike though. There is a ramp right next to it, so you probably can taxi right up to it. I thought it was a nice museum, not a lot of fluff, but lots of cool birds. Even got a Hustler in there. The day I was there the B-25 flew in with a brand new paint job, got to climb around in that (sweet). Def recommend a stop!:yesnod:

The museum was hit pretty hard with Katrina - lots of damage to the buildings, some aircraft. But it's been fund-raising and rebuilding over the past 5 years. Is it the Smithsonian or Dayton? No, but what is?

Actually it was Ike that did the most damage to LSFM, although Rita didn't help, either.

Here's their photo gallery of huricane damage.

A lot of memorabilia was lost and they're still in a recovery mode, but they are open for business.

Pre-hurricane they would let you in directly from the ramp via the back door, but I don't know if they are still doing that. A call ahead would confirm the museum building access status.

If you can't taxi up, it is only a short walk from the fbo.
I was there (pre-hurricane) and it was a wonderful experience.
