#TWO pilots escaped injury after a 1941 DC-3 carrying about 6,000 pounds of lobster veered off the runway during take-off at West End Airport, Grand Bahama, on Monday.

#The DC-3 had flown in from Fort Lauderdale to collect freight for export when it struggled to get airborne. Around 2.30pm, the vintage aircraft briefly lifted off the runway before dropping back down, skidding left and ploughing into bushes along the airport’s northern perimeter, about 50 feet off the tarmac. The plane was damaged, but both pilots walked away uninjured

Too much lobster on board made for a crappie landing ...

Engines not producing full power? 6,000 lbs is not a lot for a DC-3 (if I remember correctly).

You could see the pilot’s face turn red when he knew he was cooked…

Sad to think this plane might sit in the weeds for 10 years before getting parted out.

"So I was stuck on this island with 6000lb of lobster and a guy that didn't check to see if they might have put Jet-A in the plane..." Wild guess, I don't want to draw either conclusions or butter.

Part 135 maxes out at 7500 pounds but it isn’t 100 miles to Ft. Lauderdale so you’d only need a couple hours fuel. One hundred gallons an hour burn so 1200 pounds of fuel would be fine.
