Living in the best city in america

I used to enjoy the bars (when I was single). Now I get dragged to them. I'd rather stay home with my Labrador on Saturday nights, build a fire and drink beer in my underwear. :D

Full Disclosure - I was born here, and have never lived anywhere else. College here.. now I work here. Guess I'm just a little sick of it.

Hey John Baker, I noticed San Diego is #7... but then Irvine is #5. :dunno:

And Madison with 131 bars only made #17 :-(

i have a feeling Wichita didn't make the list.

i always wonder how much the local real estate agents pay to get their cities on these sort of lists.

The fact that Duke is located in/near Raleigh should immediately disqualify from it from ranking ahead of Flint, MI - ever.

Those lists of 50 pages you have to click through are just a way for the website to get more ad revenue, mostly. The bigger the list, the more people want to click on all the pages, the more money for them.

The "cities" list done that way, gets done by everyone. They're pretty worthless usually.

Just FYI - Raleigh has nothing to do with Duke or Durham for that matter. Duke and Durham might as well be another country. In fact I despise both of them. If they incorporated the Durham crime stats into that list, Raleigh would probably not even be listed.

Same goes for chapel hill.. Its a small college town and nothing at all like raleigh. Although you do see alot of UNC fans / grads living in raleigh. Not so much for duke.

I hate that our airport is called Raleigh/Durham.

I only make comment about it because the article mentioned Duke being there.

and...

it's REALLY effing annoying. I refuse to do it. Give me the list on one page because you won't get me to page two.

After living in Fla for my first 30 years of life and spending half of that waiting for the traffic light to change I moved to Jackson Hole Wy. Total population of the ENTIRE state is about the same as most cities the rest of you live in.... I LOVE the open space... As I type this there are elk and buffalo in my yard 100 feet from the hottub. The airport and plane is 1/2 mile away, Grand Teton National Park is a stones throw away, Yellowstone is a 15 minute flight, and as Capt Jack has posted his pics you can see the beautiful landscape there.... I can leave my driveway and head north.. the first traffic light I come to is 213 miles away. :wink2::wink2::rolleyes:.

With that said I warn all of you,,, Wyoming in NO place to live,,, Huge bugs, constant wind, ugly people, hot is the summer, -50 f in the winter, which lasts 10 months.... Don't move here .. Please.:no::no::lol:

I'm afraid summer is gone from Wyoming. When we landed there this morning it was -5C (23F).

I was laughing and crying both that D.C. was listed highly... "But only the second highest for violent crime!"

Great weighting scale.

And that all the places surrounding D.C. had "low unemployment rates".

Duh! Ever see a business website announce Federal Government downsizing and restructuring and 20% of their workers will be laid off?

No.

If you want to know what it's like living in Portland, Oregon (#19), just watch the IFC cable series "Portlandia." It's a faithfully-accurate documentary.

I can't argue about Raleigh being a nice place but any list that ranks Pittsburgh above Minneapolis has some serious flaws IMO.

Any list that places the Peoples Republic of Irvine above Austin is fundamentally flawed. I imagine their weighting is interesting.

Well, the picture of Irvine was a highway and interchange. I had to look twice to make sure it was IrvinE and not IrvinG. :D

Why it’s ranked: Taking more than a dozen data points into account, Raleigh ranks as the best place to live in the U.S. The city sports a high number of bars . . .

Bars, you want bars you come to Reading Ohio, that's all we got!

I think in Butte, MT the population to bar ratio is like 12 people to every bar, they gave up on naming them and it's Mile 1 bar, Mile 2 bar, Mile 3 bar. :D
